Archives Office

.

NOTE: Since the end of January, the Archdiocesan Archives Office has been without an Archivist.

Between now and the onboarding of the successful candidate, the basic Archives functions are being maintained; that is, generating *sacramental certificates, school transcript verifications, and replacement high school diplomas. *Sacramental certificates can only be issued to the requestor and for the requestor's minor child (not adult child). They are not issued for anyone else.

Without an archivist, the Archives Office has had to suspend genealogical and research requests, as well as hosting academic researchers.

Rest assured, your email/voicemail will be kept in the queue for our new archivist to review once they are hired.

The Archdiocese of Detroit Archives collects, arranges, preserves, and makes available for scholarly research the historic records of the Archdiocese of Detroit and related Catholic institutions and individuals. The archival collection includes materials related to archdiocesan bishops, parishes, schools, and other institutions.

Archives staff is available to assist parishes with recording and locating sacramental records; advise Curia staff and parishes on records management; help graduates and former students of closed Catholic schools locate their academic records; and answer historical research inquires, including accessing the archival collection for scholarly research, providing information for parishes in preparation for anniversaries and other celebrations, assisting with media inquiries (coordinated through the Archdiocese of Detroit Communications Office), general reference services for Curia staff, parishes, parishioners, and the public, and genealogical research.
