Cardinal Maida Dedicates Two New Catholic High Schools

Release Date: 9/19/08

CLARKSTON, Mich. – There was reason to celebrate on Friday, September 5, as Adam Cardinal Maida dedicated the newest high schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

"I am very excited to have this opportunity to preside at the Dedication Ceremony for not one, but two new high schools in our Archdiocese," said Cardinal Maida. "In these times of economic uncertainty in our area, this growth is truly good news for Catholic education in Oakland County."

Everest Catholic Boys' High School is located in newly redesigned classrooms in the International Building on the east side of Everest's spacious, 90-acre campus. The new Everest Catholic Girls' High School is located on the second floor of the existing Everest Academy Girls' School. Everest starts with a 9th grade class, and expand one grade each year, with the first graduating class in 2012.

"We are opening Everest Catholic High School this September with a freshman class who will continue Everest's legacy of academic excellence and develop new traditions for our high school," said Principal Richard Copland. "We will deliver an outstanding private, Catholic, single-gender education for families in Oakland and South Lapeer counties."

Everest's college preparatory curriculum is based on the method of education called Integral FormationSM. This method develops the whole child using a model of four pillars: academic excellence, spiritual formation, character development and apostolic service to the community.

"We are blessed to have the opportunity to open a new Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Detroit," said Father Daniel Pajerski, LC, Director of Formation. "At Everest, we will focus on the development of confident, Christ-centered leaders who will leave here with the ability to go into the world and change it for the better."

Founded in 1991, Everest has grown from an enrollment of just twenty students to 440. Also located on the campus is the Everest Academy Girls' School (girls grades 3-8) Boys' School (boys grades 3-8) Elementary School (kindergarten -2nd grade) and Preschool (ages 3 and 4). Everest is the only Catholic school in the Detroit-metro area to offer gender-specific education and a seamless path from preschool through high school on one campus.

Everest is located on Clarkston Road approximately ½ mile north of the I-75 Sashabaw Road exit. For information, contact Maura Plante, Director of Admissions, at (248) 241-9012 or visit http://www.everestcatholic.org.
