Midnight Mass

Detroit Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron will preside at the celebration of Christmas Midnight Mass at the mother church of the Archdiocese of Detroit, the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The Mass marks the celebration of Christ’s birth. A prelude by the Cathedral Chorale and Orchestra will begin at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, December 24, with the liturgy following immediately at 12 a.m.

In a Christmas message to the faithful, Archbishop Vigneron this year encouraged believers to use Christmas as a time for making room for Christ in their lives.

“(Jesus Christ) wants to enter into every part of our lives, into every aspect of who we are and into every moment of what we do and experience,” Archbishop Vigneron said. “However, he will only do that to the extent to which we invite him. In the boundless love of his Sacred Heart, he longs to be part of our lives. But in what we might call his ‘loving discretion,’ he does not force himself upon us; he waits for us to respond to his invitation ‘to make room for him.’”

The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament is located at 9844 Woodward Avenue in Detroit, one mile north of West Grand Boulevard and one mile south of the Davison Freeway. Secured, lighted parking is available.
