Michigan Bishop on Path to Sainthood

Frederic Baraga, who served as the first bishop of Diocese of Marquette from 1853-1868, has advanced in the cause for sainthood. Pope Benedict approved the Congregation for the Causes of Saints recommendation that Bishop Baraga exhibited a life of heroic virtue and thus could be called "Venerable."
