Cardinal Edmund C Szoka
“I was deeply sorry to learn of the death of Bishop Moses Anderson. He was the first and only African American priest to serve as a Bishop in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
“Bishop Anderson was a very dedicated priest and Bishop. He retained his loyalty to the Edmundite Congregation while at the same time serving zealously as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
“Bishop Anderson was very popular among the people of the parishes he served in his region. He would often sing a hymn with his wonderful voice during his sermons. Above all he was dedicated and loyal to his vocation as a priest and Bishop. He has gone to the House of the Father where he will live in the joys of total union with Christ our Lord.”
Cardinal Edmund C. Szoka, Archbishop Emeritus of Detroit, ordained Bishop Moses Anderson in 1983. Bishop Anderson served the Detroit Archdiocese until Cardinal Szoka was succeeded by Cardinal Adam Maida in 1990.
