Detroit Cathedral to host return of The Living Stations
The Living Stations of the Cross, (New name: The Cross and The Light) a professional theatrical presentation of the hours leading up to Christ's crucifixion, will be performed this year at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit from March 16 through April 1. Last year, the production drew 11,000 to Detroit’s Cathedral.
"Last year we had to give tickets away our first weekend and beg people to attend," said Kelly Nieto, producer and creator of Living Stations and founder of the Living Faith-Fine Arts Apostolate. "We knew that once people experienced the power and professionalism of Living Stations, they would tell others, and it would naturally spread like wild fire. That's exactly what happened. Thank the Lord!"
The high-quality performance includes original music, a local cast, and professional acting, choreography, sets and stage lighting. It is based on the Gospel of Mark and Blessed John Paul II’s version of the Stations of the Cross. It was first performed in the Detroit archdiocese 11 years ago, but just last year was modified for performances at the Cathedral. The cast performed 25 shows last year. This year, 36 shows are scheduled.
"The Living Stations promises to draw countless people closer to Jesus – knowing his love more clearly, understanding his sacrifice more deeply and becoming more ready to share the Good News of his love with others," said Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron. "I am fully confident that those who attend will find this dramatic presentation of our Lord’s Passion to be a blessing that enriches their faith and devotion to Christ."
Tickets range from $15 to $30. Discounts for groups, families, and on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) are available. See www.crossandlight.com. The Cathedral is located at 9844 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.
Note to media members: Photographers and videographers will be welcomed at full dress rehearsals from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on both Sunday, March 11, and Wednesday, March 14. If you are interested, please call 734-788-7073.
