Detroits Archbishop Vigneron reacts to court decision on same sex marriage
On Friday, 21 March 2014, U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman in Detroit struckdown Michigan’s ban on same-sex marriage, a decision that was enshrined into theState’s constitution by voters in 2004. Archbishop Allen Vigneron, a signatory to astatement made collectively by the bishops under the name of the Michigan CatholicConference, makes these additional remarks:
“As I said with my brother bishops in Michigan, marriage has come to us as a giftof God in establishing the order of nature. The Catholic community in southeastMichigan will continue to give witness to the truth that marriage is between oneman and one woman, which is the foundation for the flourishing of society.”
