Release Date: 4/17/15

Archbishop Allen Vigneron offered the following comment on the death of Cardinal Francis George, archbishop emeritus of Chicago, who died today at the age of 78 after a long battle with cancer:

The Church in the U.S. has lost a great pastor, a spiritual father who generously dedicated his considerable talents to helping all of us follow Jesus more closely. Cardinal George was both wise and courageous, meeting the challenges that came his way with a remarkable mix of good humor and clear thinking. I considered him a friend and a mentor. I was particularly edified by the serene faith with which he faced his death. I will miss him very much. May God reward him abundantly for his labors in the vineyard.۝
