Dec 29 Archdiocese Chorus to Sing at Mass with Pope Francis Jan 6

The Archdiocesan Chorus will be singing at the Basilica of St. Peter, in front of Pope Francis and those who will be gathered for Mass on the January 6 Feast of the Epiphany. The Mass and the chorus will be featured on Catholic Television Network of Detroit (CTND), both live at 4 a.m., and in re-broadcasts at noon and 8 p.m. Coverage comes through Boston-based CatholicTV, of which CTND is an affiliate.

The Archdiocesan Chorus has been preparing for the liturgy throughout the year, after having been invited to the Vatican in March for the Epiphany Mass. The chorus is made up of 40 members from throughout Metro Detroit, who volunteer their talents for major archdiocesan liturgies and concerts. Images and footage of the chorus can be found here.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity to sing for the Holy Father,” said Joe Balistreri, Director of Music for the Archdiocese of Detroit and the conductor of the Archdiocesan Chorus. “We really see this trip as an opportunity to represent not just our choir or even just the archdiocese, but all of southeast Michigan.”

The Feast of the Epiphany is a major holy day of the Christmas season, the celebration of which is much more pronounced in Rome than in the United States. The Archdiocesan Chorus will be singing at the holy day Mass with the Sistine Chapel Choir.
