Feb 5 Detroit Archdiocese a part of PBS report
The latest edition of PBS’ award-winning program Religion & Ethics Newsweekly features a segment on the changing demographics in Hamtramck, from 90% Polish-Catholic in 1970 to 11% today. The city of 22,000 is now majority Muslim, with immigrants from many countries and cultures, including Bosnia, Bangladesh, and Yemen.
For its report, PBS spoke to Archbishop Vigneron at St. Ladislaus Church and recorded the parish’s Sunday Mass celebrated in Polish. Other interviews include members of Hamtramck’s Muslim-majority city council.
By special arrangement with PBS, the Catholic Television Network of Detroit (CTND) is able to show encore presentations of Religion & Ethics Newsweekly. The first broadcasts, however, are seen on Detroit Public TV (Channel 56). Times and channel information follow.
