Statement regarding theft at St Alfred Parish

Release Date: 1/8/16

The Department of Communications has learned of a daytime theft from the votive candle donation boxes in the worship space of St. Alfred Parish in Taylor.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 6 at around 3 p.m. A woman, unknown to the parish staff, came to the office and asked for access to the church so she could pray. Said she was having a “really hard day” and wanted to “be with God.”The parish staffer who opened the church building accompanied the woman; he kept a respectful distance from the individual to allow her a degree of privacy. However, at some point, upon hearing rattling noises, the parish staffer suspected the woman might be compromising the donation boxes. Before she could be spoken to, the woman made a quick exit from the church.

An undetermined amount of money was stolen. The light-complexioned woman appeared to be in her late 20s, was approximately five and a half feet tall, had dark hair, wore glasses and a black wool coat, and carried a large handbag. She left in a red Honda Fit with Michigan plate number 2HU Q12.

If you think you see— or have seen— this individual and/or believe she has come to your parish, contact the Taylor Police Department at (734) 287-6611 or your local law enforcement agency.
