Statement regarding the September 22 funeral service for Officer Kenneth Steil

A funeral service for Officer Kenneth Steil, the 17-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department who died after being hospitalized with a gunshot wound sustained in duty, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake in St. Clair Shores.

The Detroit Police Department has arranged for a video feed inside the church during the service. Please know that, to respect the dignity of the occasion, no other recording devices— video, audio, or still photography— will be allowed in the church before, during, or after the funeral service, and that no media interview are to take place in the church. A parking area for news media near the church will be defined by the Detroit Police Department during the funeral. We kindly ask that you heed any direction from the police in regards to parking and access on and around the church property.
