Reverend Richard Rakoczy

Father Richard Rakoczy passed from this life on November 14, 2020 at the age of 86.

Father Rakoczy was born on December 24, 1933 in River Rouge, Michigan, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 6, 1959.

Father Rakoczy served as Pastor of St. Perpetua Parish, Waterford; and St. Patrick Parish, Carleton. He also served as Administrator of St. Rita Parish, Detroit; and as Associate Pastor of St. Clement Parish, Dearborn; St. Veronica Parish, East Detroit, SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Westside, Detroit; and Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, Detroit.

Visitation for Father Rakoczy will take place on Sunday, November 22 from 3 – 7 p.m., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford, Michigan. He will lie in state on Monday, November 23, at St. Perpetua Catholic Church, 134 Airport Road, Waterford, Michigan, at 9:00 a.m until the time of his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Father Rakoczy was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Sophie (nee Koziel) Rakoczy; siblings, Edward (Stella), Frank, Valerie, Walter (Helen), Henry (Mary), Fr. John Rakoczy, and Harry (Vicki). He is survived by his sister, Genevieve Rakocy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
