Reverend John (Jack) Child

Reverend John (Jack) Child, passed from this life on October 10, 2021, at the age of 91.

Father Child was born on October 21, 1929, in Pontiac, Michigan, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 6, 1959.

Father John Child served as Pastor of St. Martha Parish, Dearborn; Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Grosse Pointe Woods; St. Alfred Parish, Taylor; and Sacred Heart Parish, Dearborn. He served as Administrator of St. Joseph Parish, Dearborn and St. Sebastian Parish, Dearborn Heights; and as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Loretto Parish, Redford and St. Gertrude Parish, St. Clair Shores.

Father Child is predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Margaret Child. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI 48124, on Thursday, October 14 from 3 – 8 p.m. He will lie in state at Sacred Heart Church, 22430 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI 48124 on Friday, October 15 at 12:30 p.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Mount Kelly Cemetery, 23250 Cherry Hill Road, Dearborn, MI 48124.
