Reverend Norman Thomas

Reverend Norman Thomas passed from this life on February 26, 2023, at the age of 92.

Father Thomas was born on December 18, 1930 and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 4, 1955.

Father Thomas served as a member of the In Solidum team of priests pastoring St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Detroit; Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Detroit; St. Augustine and St. Monica Parish, Detroit; Sacred Heart Parish, Detroit; St. Elizabeth Parish, Detroit; that form Detroit Lower Eastside Family of Parishes. Father Thomas also served as long time Administrator of Sacred Heart Parish, Detroit as well as at St. Elizabeth Parish, Detroit. Father Thomas also served as Parochial Vicar of St. Mary Magdalen Parish, Hazel Park; St. Michael Parish, Pontiac; and St. Elizabeth Parish, Detroit.

Father Thomas is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Marie Thomas, brother Raymond Thomas, and sister, Polly Kappaz. He is survived by his brother, Ronald Thomas and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Sacred Heart Church, 1000 Eliot Street, Detroit, MI 48207 on Thursday, March 9 and Friday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
