Reverend Robert J. Shafer

Reverend Robert J. Shafer passed from this life on September 22, 2024, at the age of 70.

​Father Shafer was born on June 16, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on May 22, 1999.

​Father Shafer served as Pastor of St. Timothy Parish, Trenton and St. Angela Parish, Roseville; Administrator of St. Victor Parish, Rockwood and St. Cyril of Jerusalem Parish, Taylor; Parochial Vicar at Holy Family Parish, Novi, St. Joan of Arc Parish, St. Clair Shores, and St. Andrew Parish, Rochester. Father also served as a chaplain at Marian High School, Bloomfield Hills and Brother Rice High School, Bloomfield Hills. Father Shafer entered Senior Status July 01, 2024.

​Visitation will take place at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, 54880 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, Michigan 48316 on Wednesday, September 25 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue at St. Andrew Parish, 1400 Inglewood Avenue, Rochester, Michigan 48307 on Thursday, September 26 at 12:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be offered for Father Shafer on Thursday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m. (Please note the variance from the usual hour of a priest’s funeral Mass).

​Father Shafer was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Bernice Shafer. He is survived by his sister, Sharon (James) Nowakowski, his niece, Becky Nowakowski, nephew, Kevin (Stephanie) Nowakowski, and great nephews.
