Archdiocesan Chorus

Since 1975, the Archdiocesan Chorus of Detroit has served as the resident choir of the Archbishop of Detroit, leading music for the major archdiocesan liturgies. With a diverse membership of talented music directors and parish choir singers, the Chorus also serves as Southeast Michigan’s forum for Roman Catholic sacred music. The Chorus regularly works with local universities and local churches of all denominations, singing Gregorian chant, classical choral standards, liturgical music, and premieres of new compositions.

In recent years, the Archdiocesan Chorus of Detroit has enjoyed unmatched musical and spiritual opportunity. In January 2016, the Chorus sang by invitation at Pope Francis’ Epiphany Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In the fall of 2016, the Chorus sang for the historic Archdiocesan Synod, followed by the American Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians. In early 2017, the Chorus sang at a special vespers with Olivier Latry, the organist of Notre Dame in Paris. In the fall of 2017, the Chorus hosted the Sistine Chapel Choir, with whom they jointly sang for a special concert and a Sunday Mass at the cathedral. In early 2018, the Chorus premiered Keir Ward’s Mass of the Sacred Heart, a Gospel Mass commissioned by Archbishop Allen Vigneron.

The Archdiocesan Chorus of Detroit is looking for passionate choral musicians to join us! The season runs from September to June. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings in the apse of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. For more information on the season and to schedule an audition, please view the forms below.
