Bishop Francis Reiss
On Aug. 12, 2003, the Most Rev. Francis R. Reiss was ordained as auxiliary bishop to Cardinal Adam Maida. Bishop Reiss had previously served as pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Allen Park, one of many posts he held since his ordination as a priest in 1966.
Bishop Reiss, a native of Hamtramck, has studied extensively and holds three Masters Degrees and a licentiate of canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. His assignments have included campus minister at the University of Michigan, Henry Ford Community College and as dean of admissions and dean of academics for Sacred Heart Seminary among others. Between 1986 and 1988, Bishop Reiss served as director of the archdiocesan Department of Education.
Bishop Reiss also served as episcopal vicar and regional moderator for the South Region of the archdiocese.
