Interested in developing your vocal potential, performing great music of all styles and periods, in a variety of venues, and singing for the honor and glory of God? Join the newest and fastest growing youth choir program in Detroit!
Committed to artistry in performance, the Cathedral Choir Academy of Detroit welcomes both urban and suburban youth of all faiths, grades 3 – 12. Rehearsals take place at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave, Detroit, on Tuesdays, from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Currently, the program fields three choirs, the Descant Choir, the Cathedral Children’s Choir, and the High School Schola Cantorum. In addition to singing Pontifical Liturgies at the cathedral, CCA has performed at the Basilica of St. Anne de Detroit, the Henry Ford, Comerica Park, Little Caesar’s Arena, the Detroit Athletic Club, and Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
Under the direction of Susan Lindquist, the Cathedral Choir Academy of Detroit embraces the mission of the New Evangelization and is committed to providing an experience in which our youth encounter Christ through sacred music, grow in faith and musical excellence, and witness to the Word Incarnate. Studying and performing sacred music and deepening one's understanding of Catholic liturgy and tradition, predisposes a relationship with our Lord. Applying this experience in a liturgical setting, naturally renders choristers extraordinarily receptive to the movement of the Holy Sprit.
As a veteran music educator, with a lifetime of experience in Catholic schools and music ministries, I can testify to the power of sacred music to evangelize, particularly the young. Therefore, providing a nurturing environment which equips a child to take their rightful place of leadership at the most important gathering of the Church, the Holy Mass, is life changing. Children become what they see and hear. Lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi!
Singing for the honor and glory of God, Cathedral Choir Academy Choristers become joyful missionary disciples, unleashing the Gospel in southeastern Michigan and beyond.
