Letters of Good Standing & Celebrets

A Letter of Good Standing or Celebret is required whenever ministering outside the Archdiocese of Detroit. Please note that “ministering” includes concelebrating Mass. When you fill out a request for a Letter of Good Standing, please describe the ministry you will be engaging in. If you will be celebrating Mass or other sacraments in the Extraordinary Form, please specify that in your description so we can note it in your letter.

Use this form to request a Good Standing letter for ministry in any diocese in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. For any other country, use the Celebret request form below, unless you have been specifically told by the diocese to which you are traveling that they require a Good Standing letter.

Please complete the form in its entirety and click submit. To process your request, please allow at least two weeks (three weeks during June through August) prior to your departure. Please note that incomplete Request Forms will not be processed. Please complete a separate request for each Diocese you will be visiting.

Use this form if you are traveling OUTSIDE the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom, unless you have been specifically told by the diocese to which you are traveling that they require a Good Standing letter. If you are travelling INSIDE the USA, Canada, or the United Kingdom, please complete the request for a Letter of Good Standing.

Please request a minimum of two weeks ahead of departure (three weeks during June through August).

Please provide the country you will be visiting and your travel dates. We do not need to know the bishops or parishes you will be visiting, nor any fax numbers. The celebret will be mailed to you. If you include your email address, we will also send you a scanned copy.
